Tomorrowland--Disney's Magic Kingdom

Tomorrowland manages to feel like a futuristic adventure while evoking space-age ideas from the mid-twentieth century. Walt Disney loved imagining what the future could look like, as did many folks in the post-WWII United States. Disney had some definitive ideas about what the 2000s might hold for us. Some of those ideas became reality while others seem quaint by today’s standards. Disney explained, “Tomorrow can be a wonderful age. Our scientists today are opening the doors of the Space Age to achievements that will benefit our children and generations to come. The Tomorrow land attractions have been designed to give you an opportunity to participate in adventures that are a living blueprint of our future.” Indeed, part of the challenge of Tomorrowland is to keep raising the bar regarding what “tomorrow” might look like.

Tomorrowland is home to several of the Magic Kingdom’s most popular rides and attractions such as the thrilling roller coaster Space Mountain, Astro Orbitor, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and much more. In the spirit of keeping Tomorrowland on the cutting edge, Space Mountain was given a major refurbishment in 2009. Tomorrowland manages to evoke the promise of a space-age future while blending a retro space theme into much of the surroundings. The science-fiction comic strips such as Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers may come to mind.

Hungry space travelers in Tomorrowland will find abundant restaurant offerings including Tomorrowland Terrace Café, Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station, and the Lunching Pad, to name a few. Shopping enthusiasts will find plenty of souvenir opportunities at stores like Buzz Lightyear Shop and Merchant of Venus.
