Hyperion Wharf/Pleasure Island | Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney’s Pleasure Island was created as a place for adults to let their hair down and have some adult fun while visiting Disney World Resort. This area was named after the Pleasure Island in the “Pinocchio” story and at one time it was home to restaurants, shops, and nightclubs. Pleasure Island is no longer home to nightclubs, but retail stores and restaurants remain open as Pleasure Island is transformed into a new area called Hyperion Wharf, which is expected to be completed in 2013. Part of the reason for this change is Disney’s response to guest feedback asking for more family-friendly options and experiences in this area.

Hyperion Wharf is being created with a nautical warehouse theme, reminiscent of the early Twentieth Century. A bridge from Downtown Disney Marketplace has been widened to encourage more pedestrian traffic to and from Hyperion Wharf, and a waterfront entertainment area and lighthouse structure are also being built. As Hyperion Wharf is being transformed into a more family-friendly area, adults will still find plenty of adult activities in this spot. Dining establishments from casual to more upscale continue to thrive in this area, and the shopping at Hyperion Wharf also appeals to an adult crowd with a cigar store and a Harley Davidson store.

Look for more restaurants, stores, and entertainment venues to open at Hyperion Wharf as this major refurbishment continues in this exciting new area of Downtown Disney.
