The Grand Reef | Discovery Cove

The Grand Reef is one of the newest attractions at Discovery Cove theme park in Orlando, Florida. The Grand Reef offers a white-sand beach and an island. Underwater, Discovery Cove guests will find thousands of colorful tropical fish, moray eels, and rays to snorkel and swim among. A bit further out in the reef, guests can swim near venomous lionfish and reef sharks! Don’t worry, though, it’s perfectly safe. Habitats for these animals have been ingeniously created behind a clear barrier in the reef.

The islands of the Grand Reef can be reached by bridges or swimming. You can even take a rope bridge over a shark-filled lagoon. There are paths to explore on the islands, where guests will find hidden grottos and other surprises.

The Grand Reef offers an exciting adventure called SeaVenture, where guests can take an underwater walk on the sea floor among various forms of sea life. By wearing special underwater gear, guests can safely enjoy the thrilling experience of breathing underwater.

The cost of renting snorkeling gear is built into the cost of admission for Discovery Cove. Because of the delicate nature of the underwater habitat of the Grand Reef, Discovery Cove offers complimentary sunscreen that won’t do harm to the environment. The park requires guests to use this in lieu of their own sunscreen. And since only 1,000 people are allowed in the park at any given time, you’ll have all the room you need to explore the mysterious underwater world and captivating islands of the Grand Reef.
