Frontierland--Disney's Magic Kingdom

Frontierland is one of the themed “lands” at Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom. If you’re over a certain age, you may automatically think of Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes and the wisecracking river guides in coonskin caps when you think of Frontierland. The canoes may be a thing of the past, but in their place are some thrilling rides—some of the most thrilling rides at the Magic Kingdom, as a matter of fact.

Frontierland is modeled after the American Wild West of the 19th century. It’s where you’ll find the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster ride—a ride that simulates a runaway train hurtling down the mountain, while animatronic mountain goats and other mountain animals look on in mild interest. You’ll also find Splash Mountain at Frontierland, a log flume ride featuring characters from Disney’s classic animated film “Song of the South.” The Country Bear Jamboree, a favorite of several generations, can also be found in Frontierland along with Tom Sawyer Island.

Dining and shopping opportunities are plentiful in Frontierland. Restaurants include Golden Oak Outpost and Westward Ho. You’ll find unique western-themed Disney items at Frontier Trading Post and delightful goodies at Briar Patch.

Perhaps the best description of Frontierland was given by Walt Disney. He said, "Here we experience the story of our country's past... the colorful drama of frontier America in the exciting days of the covered wagon and the stage coach, the advent of the railroad and the romantic riverboat. Frontierland is a tribute to the faith, courage and ingenuity of the pioneers who blazed the trails across America."
