Disney's Animal Kingdom | Walt Disney World Resort

Located at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida, Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park encompasses more than 500 acres, making it the largest Disney park in the world. Animal Kingdom is home to hundreds of different species of animals, and the park was created with animal conservation as its foundation. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has met or exceeded the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ standards for animal education, conservation, and research.

This dedication to animal protection and preservation is evident in Animal Kingdom’s success in preserving the endangered white rhino. Eight white rhinos have been born at the park since its opening, and one of the white rhinos born at the park was transferred to an animal sanctuary in Uganda along with another rhino from the park. The park-born white rhino, named Nande, gave birth to a calf in Uganda, making it the first birth of the species in the country in over 25 years.

Seven themed areas make up the park, and while the animals are at the forefront of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a plethora of exciting activities keeps guests engaged. The areas include Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia, Oasis, Discovery Island, Camp Minnie-Mickey, and DinoLand USA.

The centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the Tree of Life, a tree that serves as a symbol for the park. The tree is actually a huge sculpture, standing 14 stories high and spanning 50 feet wide. All of the animals living in the park are represented as carvings on the tree.

Shows, parades, rides, educational activities, tours, a safari, dining, shopping, and of course fascinating animals all await at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
