Asia--Disney's Animal Kingdom

The Asia area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is set in the fictional village of Anandapur, meaning “place of delight” in the ancient Sanscrit language. The fictional history of Anandapur is that the village was once part of a larger kingdom ruled by maharajas. The theme ties in with the larger Animal Kingdom theme of conservation, as the fictional residents of Anandapur have devoted their lives to the conservation and study of the region’s animals.

The Asia area of the park is where guests will find animals indigenous to the continent of Asia. Here you’ll find tigers, exotic birds, bats, and more. What’s more, if you are looking for the thrill rides at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Asia area at the theme park is where you’ll find them. Expedition Everest is a thrilling roller coaster ride reminiscent of the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland, and the Kali River Rapids is an exhilarating rafting ride which takes guests on a river rapids adventure.

As in other areas of the park, animals are at the forefront, and the Maharajah Jungle Trek gives guest the opportunity to view the animals of Asia in a natural habitat. Bird lovers won’t want to miss Flights of Wonder, a show featuring exotic birds.

For those guests who have worked up an appetite in Asia, dining options include Yak & Yeti (Asian fare), Anandapur Local Cafes (Asian fare and favorites such as burgers and chicken nuggets), Anandapur Ice Cream, and Royal Anandapur Tea Company.
