Africa--Disney's Animal Kingdom

The Africa area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers a real glimpse of the wide variety of African environments and the animals that inhabit them on the African continent. Modeled after a real African savanna, the Harambe Wildlife Preserve is home to Kilimanjaro Safaris, the Africa area’s main attraction. During a Kilimanjaro Safari, guests ride in an authentic open-sided safari vehicle for an up-close and personal look at the animals that inhabit the savanna. This area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is teeming with exotic animals such as hippos, African elephants, lions, reticulated giraffes, and more. Also located in the Africa area, the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail is a place where hikers can explore and try to spot gorillas. This area also features an African valley, which is home to Nile hippos and several varieties of birds and fish.

Another major attraction in the Africa area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the village of Harambe, a fictional east African village. Harambe has its own Disney legend, which is that while the village was once a Dutch colony, it gained independence in a peaceful revolution. Guests will find several animal exhibits in the village, which is also a jumping-off point for those who wish to take a trek or safari through the Africa area.

Africa is also host to several eating establishments, such as Tamu Tamu, and shopping spot Mombasa Marketplace/Ziwani Traders.
